The Sportsman of the Year Award didn't catch up with its 1998
recipient, Gary Davis, until the day after it was to be awarded. His fellow racers at
Barberville gave him a long, appreciative round of applause for his efforts at promoting
vintage racing, especially dirt tracking. The award is AHRMA's highest honor. (Matt Benson
