| The motorcycle, says the Salinas, Calif., general contractor, was "bolted
together" by Jim McEuin of Novato, Calif., from mainly new parts. "Problem was,
nothing worked properly." So after acquiring the 199cc Cub last year, Brid tore it
down and started over. Equipment on this Premier Lightweight trials machine includes a Rickman front hub, Ceriani forks, stock rear hub, Boyer electronic ignition and Mikuni carb. The frame and related parts are powder-coated grey with black flecks, and most other parts are nickel/chrome-plated or highly polished. Formerly from the Isle of Man, the 42-year-old Caveney roadraced modern bikes until 1993, when he became disenchanted with both the tracks and the attitudes of racers. In 1994 he was introduced to trials by John Joyce, a Montesa rider who took these photos of Caveney and his motorcycles. He joined AHRMA at 1994's Hollister national and rode a '74 Bultaco Sherpa T 350. Last year he rode all AHRMA West rounds, finishing first in Modern Classic Expert and fourth in the national series. "I met a great crowd of dedicated enthusiasts and enjoyed both the company and competition. Nobody was more surprised than me with my results," he says of his '95 season. The only part he didn't enjoy was the traveling--12,000 miles worth, including the trip to Steamboat. "What I enjoy most about AHRMA is the honesty and helpfulness of most of the people I meet," he says. |
