Classic Sixties racer Owner: Brid Caveney
The bike was built in just three weeks for the start of the 2004 season using a 650 pre-unit Triumph motor in a Manx Norton rolling chassis. The motor was built by Gary Swan from Toad Town Racing and is a careful selection of 1960s parts. The rolling chassis, built by Brid Caveney with parts sourced from the UK and donated by Gil Vaillancourt from Works Performance. Brid reports: "After racing Gil's Manx Nortons at selected races in 2003, I was completely sold on the overall performance of them. I decided I would love to own a Manx, but could not afford to build one. So I took the next best option -- built a Manx rolling chassis and put a pre-unit 650 Triumph motor in there. The bike arrived at the first race of 2004 at Jennings having never run! Crazy, I agree, but I guess I am getting better at my 'educated guesses.' Fired it up for the first time the day before the race, and my first laps were in the race Thursday. We won, and after moving on to Daytona, won both days as well. Not a bad start to a new bike's life! We are hoping to run the bike all year, and also hoping our good luck continues! Look out for us at the races." |
