Cotton Cobra ScramblerBy Dan Vitaletti
This bike is a 1965 Cobra model on which I compete in the Rocky Mountain Region Premier Lightweight Intermediate class. The engine is a two-stroke 247cc Villiers Starmaker. The frame was built up from a basket case and engine assembled from a hoard of NOS parts. When sold new, Cotton offered the option of either Armstrong leading-link forks or Norton Roadholder telescopics as front suspension units. Betor forks are fitted until a suitable set of Roadholders can be located. All components for this model are readily available from AJS Motorcycles Ltd. in England. They also can provide a complete, ready-to-race Cobra replica if desired.
Greeves TFS Trials
This bike is a 1965 Greeves TFS trials model on which I ride trials in the Rocky Mountain Region Premier Lightweight Intermediate class. This model was the last year of production for the Scottish line. It features the unique alloy-beam frame and rubber-in-torsion leading-link forks. Stump-pulling power comes from a 246cc Villiers engine that incorporates the Greeves Challenger alloy cylinder and head. Yes, it was originally fitted with that front fender.
