some years ago, “It wasn’t until 1984 when Dave Roper won the Historic TT on a Team Obsolete machine that the G50 scored its first TT win. Since then, the Senior Classic Manx Grand Prix has become a G50 benefit” (44). A G50, in John Goodall’s hands, had already won the 500 class in the first Classic Manx GP in 1983, and an unscientific survey of Manx GP results over the following years bears Grant out. By the mid-1990s, half or more of the finishers in the Senior Classic were running G50s, most of them out of Colin Seeley’s shop, the others on Rickman or George Beale machines. The percentages have slipped a bit after 2000, but in last year’s running of the Senior Classic, 16 of the 42 finishers rode G50-powered mounts.
Hi Craig,
Beginning in 2014, any engine legal for 100cc Motocross can be legally-fitted to any frame originally produced for a Rickman Zundapp.
Thank you,
Matt Hilgenberg, Vintage MX Rules & Eligibility Committee Chairman
When Jay turned 50 and with the help of his friend Dave Iverson, they took the little Indian Chief off the wall and 10 years later the display bike would set multiple records at Bonneville including the world’s fastest Indian in its class. Over the past years, Jay’s FXR powered S&S cycle and Baker drive transmission have set a total of 19 records. Since moving on from the Broken Spoke Saloon brand in 2012 Jay continues to work and support the motorcycle industry at many venues with more to come in 2013.
It looks like the 125 Rickman-Zundapp frame is allowed in 100cc class – but with what motor? Does the no mix-n-match rule still apply? If the intent is to allow Rickman-Hodaka replicas, that should be stated.
I’d like to make a Rickman-Yamaha.
Sad to see the early sportsman stock class passed in July then failed in October. My DT1 will collect some dust for this year.
