Rounds 13 & 14 of AHRMA Vintage Cup series featuring the 350GP class, sponsored by NYC Norton and Roadracing World Magazine ( took place Saturday and Sunday, July 26-27 at Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin.

Having won both rounds at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka Kansas, Alex McLean came into the race weekend with a 2000+ point lead over Dave Roper, with Jim Korn second.  The paddock had excitement in the air as race 13   gridded Saturday afternoon.  Roper got the best start and took turn one ahead of the field.  While McLean and Roper diced throughout the race, McLean was never able to hold the lead and finished second behind Roper.

Sunday’s race was red-flagged before the first lap was completed, and when restarted the race was shortened to 3 laps.   McLean obviously did his homework from Saturday’s analysis of Roper’s race line and he was able to take the lead between lap 2 and 3 of a shortened race, taking the checkered flag by a few bike lengths.

With McLean still leading in points, rounds 15 and 16 at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Michigan, promises to be every bit as exciting as the previous rounds with Roper and McLean continuing the battle for the championship!

From NYC Norton sponsor Kenny Cummings:  “As we go into Gingerman, one thing that we saw at Road America is that the points chase is closing between McLean and Roper. Some of the other 350GP contenders have their work cut out for them for the next few events to get those crucial points to make this a full fledged running championship.  After this weekend, we will be going into California, Utah, Talladega, and then on to Barber, where this series will be decided.  So these guys have their work cut out for them.  We are seeing some great racers coming in and races within races at every event.”
