Dear Fellow AHRMA Members,
As your elected board of trustees, we have many factors to consider when addressing our rules of competition. We engage discipline-specific rules committees to make recommendations to us. Our committees are comprised of knowledgeable and earnest volunteers who often make their recommendations with a focus on historical accuracy and tradition. These are important factors, however other things come into play.
In a perfect world, historical accuracy may be paramount. However, in the best interests of AHRMA we are compelled to also consider the cost of racing, competitive parity, inclusion (to keep grids populated), availability of parts and tires, and the desire to attract exotic vintage machinery. All factors are discussed and weighed. In most cases we agree with the recommendation of the rules committees, but not always. We respect their valued opinions, while considering all factors before rendering preliminary decisions.
Once these preliminary decisions are shared with our members and the members weigh in, we go back and discuss the proposals again and make our final calls. Every proposal and every piece of input is considered. We then do our level best to make the right decisions.
The process may be complex, but it’s as fair as we can make it. Our volunteer committee members and volunteer trustees work hard to make all this happen.
Each AHRMA member is invited to become part of this process by offering a constructive comment, volunteering, or even going so far as running for a position on the board of trustees.
Thanks to those who do the work and thanks to our membership’s passion for this exciting sport.
Arthur Kowitz
Chairman of the Board
