Next Gen Motocross Mission Statement

Mission Statement: The Mission of AHRMA Next Gen Motocross is to showcase the technological advancements that continued in rapid succession after the Post Vintage period and to commemorate a time when two-strokes dominated motocross racing. The introduction of disc brakes, exhaust power valves, further refinement of linkage-controlled rear suspension systems, upside down forks incorporating sophisticated cartridge-valving, and beam style frames built from steel and aluminum are the noteworthy advancements of the Next Gen Era. Most of these advancements can be found in modern motocross bikes produced to this day.

The most decorated Supercross and Motocross athletes of all time—McGrath, Carmichael, Everts—reached the pinnacle of their careers during the next Gen Era, adding to this period’s historical significance. The popularity of Supercross also grew exponentially during the Next Gen Era enabling Japanese and European factory teams and well-funded independent teams to build brand recognition that endures today. The Next Gen Era ends with the dominance of complex modern 250 and 450 four-stroke motocross bikes in competition.

The primary purpose of AHRMA Next Gen Motocross is to provide an appropriate place for these machines to be preserved and ridden by those who are interested in reliving an era where the simplicity and excitement of two-strokes is celebrated. In addition to educating and exposing the history to those who may not have been participants the first time around Next Gen Motocross can provide a gateway to AHRMA Vintage and Post Vintage competition to those that may not otherwise have been exposed to it.
