The first policy, Race Number Configuration, outlines what is allowed in your race number.  The second policy, Releasing Assigned Race Numbers, outlines when a race number will be returned to the available number pool.

Race number configuration

Allowed in race numbers:

  • 1-3 positions
  • numbers (i.e. 0-9) (see disallowed – single digit 0 and single digit 1 are not allowed as race numbers)
  • 1 following alpha letter
  • If following letter used, the letter must be upper case
  • If following letter used, the letter must be at least 3″ tall

Disallowed in race numbers:

  • More than 1 letter
  • More than 3 positions  (i.e. No 4 digit numbers, or combinations of numbers & letters in any form)
  • The following letters: B, D, I, O, S, and Z
  • Punctuation marks or special symbols (i.e. “‘”, “.”, “,”, etc.)
  • Leading letters
  • Leading zeros
  • Single digit zero – “0” or single digit one – “1”

Race numbers that are in existence prior to 7/1/2022 that do not comply with these requirements must be changed by 12/31/2023.

Releasing Assigned Race Numbers

Numbers will be released back into available race number inventory as follows:

  • Full member hasn’t raced within the past 24 months (2 years)+*
  • Lifetime member hasn’t raced within the past 24 months (2 years)+*
  • Associate member is not eligible to hold a race number
  • Membership lapses/expired for more than six months
  • Numbers assigned to weekend members expire when the membership expires

+Does not apply to Off-Road Disciplines (Motocross, and Cross Country – Trials doesn’t have permanent number assignments)
*Exceptions may be made by Race Directors.

This policy is effective immediately.

Those of you who have numbers with disallowed items no doubt will be wondering what you do next. You can select your new number(s) when you enter an event through AHRMA.MotorsportReg.com or contact a designated event organizer for your discipline(s). Designated event organizers are:

You may also request numbers by submitting the contact form at ahrma.org/contact. Select Topic “Race Number Request”, and then all the disciplines for which you are requesting numbers.

Once you have your new number(s), make sure you update your bike. If you don’t run the number that is assigned to you, and you don’t clear it through registration at that event, you can be disqualified.
