The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) distributes numerous Special Awards each year, recognizing the participation and accomplishments of many of our members. Many of those Special Awards honor people who have made significant contributions to AHRMA and/or the motorcycling sport.
New Special Awards must be approved by AHRMA’s Awards Committee before they will be added to the portfolio of honors. Applications for new awards must meet the criteria below:
- Any proposed Special Award must have a direct association with AHRMA.
For Special Awards bearing the name of an individual:
The award should recognize a long and valued association with AHRMA by that person and/or should honor a particular quality embodied by that person that represents AHRMA’s philosophy; a discipline/class in which the named person was known for may also be spotlighted.
For Special Awards bearing the name of a particular AHRMA racing class:
It is solely at the determination of the AHRMA Awards Committee as to whether the requested class is significant enough to have a perpetual award designated for it. - Applicants submitting a proposal for a new award are responsible for providing the physical trophy that will be awarded each year.
Perpetual trophies must be donated to AHRMA on a permanent basis. If each year’s award is to be a trophy for recipients to keep permanently, a committed donor must be confirmed. AHRMA will not be responsible for producing or financing any award. - New Special Awards may not be used for the purpose of advertising.
New awards will not bear any company or commercial name. Trophies donated by a past motorcycling legend may bear that person’s name (e.g. The Mick Andrews Trophy for the Modern Classic Expert Trials Champion). - All proposals for new Special Awards must be submitted in writing using the Special Awards Proposal Application (provided here).
Applications will be accepted at any time, but must be received by October 1 in order for a new award to be considered for the following year.
