Chairman of the Board Opening Remarks (GT)

Good morning everyone.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you—our valued members. A special shout-out to those in attendance today, as well as our sponsors, venues, promoters, race directors, paid staff, and volunteers—including our hardworking regional coordinators and, of course, everyone who serves on this board.

2025 has been a remarkable year for AHRMA.
Each of our racing disciplines—across national and regional schedules—has been active, passionate, and supportive of our community of racers.

But let’s be honest—this year wasn’t without its challenges.
We’ve faced rising insurance and liability costs…
We’ve onboarded two new race directors…
We’ve seen a dip in race attendance…
And, of course, we’ve had our fair share of weather disruptions.

Each of these had the potential to seriously impact AHRMA’s financial solvency and operational flow. But I’m proud to say: we met these challenges head-on.

Thanks to the dedication and foresight of our executive team, we managed these issues proactively—without disruption to our members or their experience—while maintaining both the financial health and membership strength of our organization.

Now let’s take a moment to ground ourselves in what AHRMA is all about.

The mission of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association is clear:
To preserve and showcase both historic and modern motorcycles—recreating the sights, the sounds, and the spirit of racing’s past—across every discipline: road racing, motocross, dirt track, and more.

Our vision?
To create a safe, inclusive environment where members can share their love for vintage machines—ensuring that the rich history and thrill of motorcycle racing is enjoyed, remembered, and passed onto future generations.

Let me break it down a bit more:

AHRMA’s Mission

  • Recreating the experience – Bringing back the sights, sounds, and camaraderie of vintage racing for both riders and fans.
  • Showcasing historic machines – Giving a platform to motorcycles from over a century of racing evolution.
  • Promoting modern racing – Highlighting single-, twin-, and three-cylinder motorcycles that have often been under-represented in modern events.

AHRMA’s Vision

  • Fostering community – Bringing together racers, team owners, and enthusiasts with a shared passion.
  • Ensuring safety – Creating historically-accurate yet safe and competitive racing environments.
  • Inspiring the next generation – Educating new participants and drawing them into the world of vintage motorcycle racing.

And finally, to ensure we continue to grow and thrive, we’ve established clear strategic objectives to guide us:

Our Strategic Objectives:

  1. Membership
    • Grow our base
    • Enhance member experience
    • Deepen engagement
  2. Safety– A top priority, with a special thanks to Ed for leading the charge here.
  3. Organizational Performance
    • Strengthening our financial foundation
    • Effective contractor management
    • Planning for leadership succession

Over the course of this meeting, our team will walk you through the great work accomplished in 2025—and give you insight into what lies ahead in 2026.

Thank you again for being here, for being part of AHRMA, and for helping us, keeping our club alive and to thrive

Executive Director Report – Daniel May

Financial Summary

  • 2023 we were able to end the year with a modest profit of ~$52,000 on revenues of ~$1,700,000 (operating margin of about 3%)
  • 2024 was much better. First full year that Ed & Dan took over, and we ended the fiscal year with a profit of ~$130,000 on ~$1,740,000 (operating margin of about 7.5%)
  • We have retired $250,000 of the $350,000 debt, leaving a manageable $100,000 (plus nominal accrued interest)

First 9 months of 2025 (Dec – Aug) ended with $1,141,295 in Revenue and a loss of ($8,567)

  • 2024 comparison was $1,161,781 Revenue and $21,925 Net Income
  • Net Income is down ($30,493) from same period last year • Net Income by Class/Discipline (after G&A Allocation)
  • OR $6,297
  • RR ($11,660)
  • DT ($3,206)

But, all is not lost. We historically are only at or near break even for the year before Barber.

  • Q1-Q3 ended August 31st, so events in Sep, Oct, and Nov are not included.
  • 2024 Barber produced $135,000 of net profit
  • RR $123,500
  • OR $16,300
  • DT ($4,100)
  • So, we should end the year in the black by about $100,000, but too early to tell until we get the Barber event settled

Member Comment Period

GT opened the member comment period at about 9:00 am.

  • Ralph Wessel – Needs souvenir programs for handing out at motorcycle events, AHRMA is doing great.  Thank you to the staff and Board of Trustees for a great year
  • Dave Stanton – He is an Off-Road Tech Inspector, 12 year member in the NW Region and is running for Western Trustee in the upcoming election.
  • Tim Joyce – Commends the BOT and Dan May for guiding AHRMA back to financial health – Also he is concerned about staff members being able to submit rules proposals.
  • At this point GT commented that our staff has been beyond reproach and is entitled to all member benefits including submitting rules proposals.
  • Adam Cramer – Side Car racer
  • David Rhodes – Thanks to the Executive Director, Board of Trustees and Race Directors for a great year.  He supports the Mentorship program.  He would like to see a Perpetual Award for those putting riders on their machines if they are not able to ride them for various reasons but still want to come to races and see their machines in competition.  Rob Poole said that the NW Off-Region has such an award.

AHRMA’s Elevator Pitch

AHRMA is alive and well – keeping the past fast!

We all know why we are AHRMA members… we have a passion for older motorcycles, we enjoy the competition, and we value the friendships we’ve made at AHRMA events for road racing, dirt track, motocross, cross-country and trials.

As a call to action, we encourage our existing members to bring a friend along for the ride, promote AHRMA and influence a friend or two to join in on the fun.

Road Race Report – Leasha Overturf

First, I’d like to start with a thank you for the opportunity to be the Road Race Director. With each race I gain confidence and continue to improve all aspects of Road Race.

2025 Challenges

  • Weather was not always kind but managed to get through those weekends.
  • Had to ask a long-time road racer to step down from racing. That was really tough but had to be done for the greater good of safety
  • Incredibly challenging to have a track fatality in August (Pitt Race)
  • One too many life flights for the season, but most of the time, the racers were in/out of hospital pretty quick.
  • Disappointed to lose the ability to run Electric motorcycle
  • Very disappointed to lose the opportunity to expand Sound of Thunder 3

2025 Wins

  • Successfully managed the west coast back-to-back with the help of colleague Brady Walker
    • Only travelled 5 staff to Willow. Added 3 full time staff to INDE for a total of 8 having travelled
    • With both races I saved significantly on gear transport and 2 staff donated their travel one way
  • The west coast Back to Back round lost money but morale and energy was quite high and will hopefully lead to a bigger and better round in 2026
  • Inde Motorsports Ranch was the launch of “Track Walks” on wheels with high profile guides. Being able to take a pit bike, scooter or golf cart on track with expert coaches like Nick Ienatch, Shane Turpin, Stefano Mesa, Kevin Greimel and Marty Sires was invaluable and added much safety to the season
  • Sponsorships continued to grow throughout the year. 2025 season gained 2 sponsors stepping up to be Gold sponsors in 2026 due to being pleased with how well everything is running under the team of Dan and myself.
  • A variety of racers gave financial donations all season to ensure the team had an evening meal and great lunches. This may sound small but for Team morale this is huge. The racers are really stepping up to show their appreciation
  • All steady Staff/Volunteers are happy and expected to return for 2026
  • Racers and I continue to communicate over the race weekend and it has brought a feeling of trust since I preach “please communicate” and “do what you say/ say what you do” mantra
  • Successfully implemented the pit bike/scooter helmet rule. Racers understood clearly that it was necessary for insurance and took it seriously. When someone forgets they quickly communicate it and try to get a solution figured out same day
  • Mentor program was launched at PITT Race weekend and gained 7 mentors sporting their t-shirts and ready to be helpful. Just about everyone had someone they were helping whether on track, in the pits or sharing thought processes
  • Had a successful Race School Program under the model of using “local instructors”. None of which would have been possible without Arthur Kowitz supporting me and guiding each weekend from afar
  • Signed a 3-year contract with Barber Motorsports

2026 Goals

  • Grow the membership by having awesome mentors and asking all racers to get one new person to join
  • Continue to promote the AAR program to gain more students. • Continue to run each weekend on a tight budget while still having enough staff and volunteers
  • Give the opportunity to ”sunsetting” racers to run at a few race weekends with “Legacy Laps Racing”.
    • This will mean providing them the opportunity run at slower pace but get on the track by running with group 1 in practice and having a short race after the mock race or the following morning.
    • These weekends are yet to be determined.
  • Continue to build sponsor relationships.
  • Continue to make the racers feel heard and important within the scope of the situation.
  • Work on getting my paperwork done sooner

Moving Forward

  • How does AHRMA really continue to grow if there is not openness to adjusting the rules or qualification of classes?
  • I have struggled with the fact that the SOT3 rules proposal was a 100% win in the preliminary vote and then got shot down in final vote. Help me understand what happened. I strongly feel that new bike classes need to be allowed in SOT3, and it will help grow our membership.
  • Less meetings and more action
  • I’m thankful for the support and ideas that come from collaborating in meetings such as safety committee, membership, road race committee, but at times this season I felt we were all meeting too often. Taking meetings to 1x a month for Safety, membership and branding has been helpful and more productive. Road Race committee now only meets every two weeks and has freed up time to work on contracts, research, inventory, etc. I feel strongly we need to continue to move in the direction of less meetings and more action

In Closing

  • I will lean into 2026 with great energy and continue my efforts of safety and communication
  • I would be nowhere without the incredible support of the staff and volunteers. I’m very lucky to have Jim Korn as my referee. We are a great team with the same goals
  • Jim and I are very thankful to have our safety partner Bob Robbins at all of our races ready to lend support or problem solve
  • All of AHRMA is very lucky to have DAN MAY at the helm and I feel fortunate to have a “boss” that feels more like a partner in everything that needs to get done
  • I am often asked by racers if I’m going to leave. I’m happy to report I have no desires of leaving my position and I love what I do
  • I do have the desire to set better boundaries, but realize this will be a work in progress

In closing, thanks for having me as AHRMA’s Road Race Director!

Dirt Track Report – Season Review by Dan May

  • We held 10 Races in 6 States
  • All but one race was run by a promoter other than AHRMA
  • The Barber DT event was the only one AHRMA promoted
  • We had 233 participants who scored points in a primary DT class. Not counting Barber
  • Last year we had 133 participants in the same classes
  • Except for Barber we did not make or lose Money at any event
  • This year we worked hard to develop good and hopefully long-lasting relationships with several flat track racing promoters

2025 Goals

  1. Keep Dirt Track alive in AHRMA
    – So far, we seem to have done this
  2. Don’t lose money
    – Other than Barber this has been accomplished
  3. Work with promoters of large flattrack events
    – This has worked out much better then expected
  4. See if we can work with the AMA
    – This did not work out at all and is not worth the time at the moment
  5. See if we can work with the AFT
    – Although it was a pain, technically it was not AHRMA but the riders had to run AHRMA events to qualify to run at the Handshift Shootout at Lima and the Springfield Mile. I would consider is a good first step.

The Future

  • Reconfigure the class structure to better match large events
  • Work with promoters to make these events full AHRMA events that will require AHRMA membership.
    • Doing this will help grow our membership base
  • Break the country up into three regions and award regional champions.
    • This leaves us with the option to have a one race Grand National Championship event to crown a national Champion
  • Find a season sponsor along with individual race sponsors
  • Discuss with AFT the potential of run couple classes with them
    • Turn the AHRMA event into an exhibition race and not points paying
  • Rebrand Dirt Track as Flat Track

GT made the motion to change the name from Dirt Track to Flat Track and give the AHRMA Flat Track committee permission to track other North American Flat Track class structures subject to BOT review and concurrence.  EV seconded –  Unanimous Yes vote

Off-Road Director Report – Albert Newmann

AHRMA Off Road Update Covering Procedural Request

Request to Board and Executive Committee to revise Entry Procedure section 4.8

  • Revise handbook to accurately state our current weekend membership conversion window which is 90 days or perhaps longer depending on Membership renewal and recruitment initiatives.
  • Revise 4.8 to remove statement regarding one weekend memberships to not include “series points”.
    • As part of membership conversion initiatives removing points is not incentive friendly. If these   members convert they should be inclusive of points earned as a weekend member. For off road this   means they can be incentivized to participate in a national championship.
    • Manually altering our databases is a daunting task. We put ourselves at risk anytime this is done.

AHRMA has four separate databases to maintain for off road. The changes must cascade through all systems.

  • Our databases are not aligned as they do not interface to MotorsportReg. Every change is   manual.
  • Historically none of our systems have ever been aligned AKA “Data Synchronization” performed.
  • Only the Vintage MX points have been altered in recent years.
  • Our individual points keepers in years past did not align as some would attempt to wipe out weekend members and some points keepers did not.

BOT discussion ensued about the unintended consequences of changing the Weekend membership window and National Series points. Albert (along with EV, ER and JO) to continue looking into the path forward that serves our membership and encourages new members.  Albert will then brief the BOT on his proposed changes. The BOT can then approve, amend or reject any changes.

The 2026 Off-Road schedule is in the works and about 80% complete, however, some dates and venues may change. The schedule will be released as soon as possible.

Problem: Many off-road promoters miss key delivery dates as well as general understanding of their delivery versus AHRMA delivery of contractual obligations.

Improvements for 2026:

  • Send contracts out starting November 1-30, 2025.
  • Have all contracts executed no later than January 30 except for our early schedule dates(Feb-April) which will require execution by Dec 10, 2025.
  • Use clear and simple language.
  • Provide a summary of key points.
  • Offer general Q&A session and frequently asked questions information.
  • Walk through contract at time of execution.
  • AHRMA to create general “flier” template with understanding our rights to market if the customer fails to meet marketing material deadline(s).

DISCUSSION ITEMS

OLD BUSINESS

  • Recap 2025 Racing Program’s  Strengths and Weaknesses – Done in each presentation
  • General business outlook based on 2025 observations and trends
    • We are on a strong trajectory for financial stability and need to:
      • Encourage our members to get their friends and family coming to AHRMA events and become AHRMA members
      • Continue to put on high quality events that our members want to attend

NEW BUSINESS – Goals for 2026

  • Rule Proposal voting process discussion
Various discussion ensued about how to improve the rules proposal voting process with the specific Rules and Eligibility Chairman of the specific rule change proposal being invited to voting meeting to explain the rationale and answer any BOT questions regarding the proposed rule change.  Additionally, BOT members were advised to reach out to other BOT members and the Rules and Eligibility committee members to better understand the proposed rule change if needed to make an informed decision.
  • Draft Code of Conduct Complaint Procedures Review and Discussion
LS showed a draft version of the procedures and discussion followed with a few modifications.  The final version is shown below:

    • Code of Conduct (COC) Complaints are a last resort for resolving COC issues between racers.  Involved parties must try to resolve the issues before filing a formal complaint.  A formal  COC Complaint shall include a refundable (if the complaint is upheld)  fee of $50 in the form of a check made payable to AHRMA.  This fee is to encourage the parties to resolve the issues themselves. If resolution isn’t possible, the AHRMA member must file a formal complaint in accordance with AHRMA Handbook section 18.2, Member Code of Conduct – Submission of Complaint.
    • The process of evaluating a complaint shall be as follows:
      1. The AHRMA Executive Committee will first determine if the COC Complaint was submitted in accordance with the AHRMA Handbook section 18.2, if not, the Complaint is denied.  If the COC Complaint was properly submitted in accordance with the AHRMA Handbook then:
      2. The AHRMA Executive Committee shall establish a 3 member COC Complaint evaluation committee from the Board of Trustees (BOT):
      3. This evaluation committee shall request evidence of the COC Complaint from both parties involved, review the evidence and talk with both parties for obtaining their side of the story.
      4. The evaluation committee shall then either uphold or deny the complaint:
      5. The evaluation committee shall recommend the penalty per AHRMA Handbook section 18.3.
      6. The BOT shall then determine the penalty at their sole reasonable discretion.
      7. Members may appeal the BOT decision following AHRMA Handbook section 18.4
  • Is there a process for AHRMA to discuss the bigger strategy for AHRMA’s direction? I.E Two and Five year goals/plans.
General discussion on planning for the future with the direction to morph the Strategic Membership Committee to a Strategic Planning Committee
  • What are the current shortcomings of the current Handbook? And if we (AHRMA) decide that we want to reorganize/update, what is the process to make improvements?
General discussion of re-organizing the handbook for better grouping of information and make it more member friendly.
  • MSR – What are the shortcomings of MSR and does it impact membership?
    • General discussion with DM tasked with looking at enhancements/alternatives

FINAL COMMENTS FROM THE CHAIR (GT)

AHRMA is financially stable and poised for a great 2026 season.  We are moving our Strategic Membership Committee forward to be our Strategic Planning Committee to discuss and plan the strategy and goals for AHRMA moving forward in the years to come.

2026 first BOT meeting location discussion ensued with both Western and Eastern locations considered along with Off-Road and Road Racing events considered.  After discussing the meeting options, it was agreed by the BOT for the first 2026 BOT meeting to be at Roebling Road Race in early February 2026 and the 2027 first BOT will be in the Western Region TBD.

Motion to adjourn WP, seconded by EV – Unanimous approval, adjourned, ~4;24 pm.
