Chairman of the Board Opening Comments – GT

2026 is Off to a Strong Start

Chairman Greg (GT) Tomlinson opened the recent Board of Trustees meeting at Roebling Road with a clear message: AHRMA is stable, professionally managed, and growing. Here are the key takeaways for our members:

Professional Race Management

The Chairman formally recognized Road Race Director Leasha Overturf and her entire staff for the successful execution of the 2026 season opener. The event was noted for its high level of organization and camaraderie, successfully concluding the full race program just minutes before Sunday’s inclement weather arrived. This efficiency sets a high standard for the remainder of the 2026 series.

Financial Stability and Stewardship

AHRMA concluded the 2025 fiscal year in a strong position. Furthermore, the 2026 budgetary outlook is currently exceeding expectations. This solid financial foundation ensures that our multi-discipline race schedule remains fully supported and positioned for long-term stability.

Leadership Transitions

The Board has welcomed David Stanton as its newest member. David brings a fresh perspective to AHRMA’s leadership team as we move forward.  In addition to David’s fresh perspective, he is also our Northwest region lead tech inspector. We also extend our sincere gratitude to our outgoing trustees for their years of dedicated service and thoughtful leadership.

Strategic Future

The Board is not only focused on current operations but is also looking ahead. Through the work of the Strategic Planning and Safety Committees, AHRMA is identifying ways to modernize the club’s infrastructure while strictly preserving the vintage racing heritage that defines us.

The Bottom Line: With high participation rates across all disciplines and a balanced budget, the energy within the AHRMA community has never been higher.

GENERAL REPORTS

Report from Executive Director (DM)

Financial summary

  • In 2024, the first full year that Ed & Dan took over, we ended the fiscal year with a profit of ~$130,000 on ~$1,740,000 revenue (operating margin of about 7.5%)
  • For 2025, the fiscal year ended with a profit of $101,000 on $1,583,000 of revenue (operating margin of 6.3%)
  • As a not-for profit, we should target a operating margin of 5%-8%, using excess profit to retire debt and build “rainy day” reserve.
  • We have retired $300,000 of the $350,000 debt, with $50,000 remaining (plus nominal accrued interest). The remaining debt should be retired by November 2026.

New Initiatives & Racer Opportunities

  • The Mentor Committee: We have officially launched a program to match new and experienced racers with mentors. We already have 14 mentees paired up!
  • Legacy Laps: We are continuing our collaboration with Beno Rodi to offer “Legacy Laps.” This is a fantastic opportunity for owners of precious vintage machines or “sunsetting” racers to take a checkered flag at a controlled pace.
  • The 700 Challenge: We are running “Director’s Choice” classes for research and development, specifically looking at how to integrate newer bikes into our classes (starting with SOT 3 updates).
  • Electric Racing: Look for the Lightfighter Electric Motorcycles joining us for three spec races this year.

Growing the AHRMA Community

  • Strategic Partnerships: We are working with other organizations like the USCRA to build larger grids and shared opportunities, making racing more affordable and exciting for everyone.
  • Member Outreach: If you are sidelined by injury or hesitant to return to the seat, we want you to stay in our family! We are actively seeking volunteers to help run our events.
  • Sponsorship Wins: We’ve secured four new sponsorships (including two Gold-level partners) to help keep the club financially healthy while running on a responsible budget.

Looking Forward

We are already researching tracks for 2027 and working with the Strategic Planning Committee to update our handbook and website. My goal is to ensure every member feels heard and every weekend runs smoothly.

Thank you to the incredible staff, volunteers, and the Board of Trustees for making this possible. Let’s make 2026 our best season yet!

The AHRMA 3-5 Year Strategic Initiative

The Strategic Planning Steering Committee—composed of the Board Chair, Executive Director, and all Discipline Directors—has launched a formal process to ensure AHRMA remains the premier vintage racing organization for years to come.

Our Mission: Honoring the Past

The committee has reaffirmed that AHRMA’s core purpose is to recreate the sights, sounds, and spirit of racing’s past.

  • Preservation: We are dedicated to showcasing the machines and heritage that shaped the sport.
  • Community: We aim to foster a vibrant, inclusive environment for racers, owners, and enthusiasts alike.
  • Balance: While focusing on historically significant machines, we are also “embracing selected modern motorcycles through thoughtfully designed classes” to keep our grids full and our community growing.

Our Vision: Protecting the Future

The goal is to ensure that the excitement of vintage racing is passed onto future generations. This means evolving to welcome new riders and fans while maintaining the long-standing traditions that legacy members value.

The Six Strategic Questions

To build this future, the committee is currently answering six “diagnostic” questions. This process helps us move away from year-to-year guesswork and toward data-driven decisions:

  1. Where are we now? A hard look at our current membership and financial state.
  2. How did we get here? Understanding the past decisions that shaped today’s club.
  3. Where do we want to go? Defining what a successful AHRMA looks like in 2030.
  4. How do we get there? Creating the step-by-step plan to reach our goals.
  5. What are the obstacles? Identifying hurdles like track costs, insurance, or aging demographics.
  6. What resources do we need? Determining what new skills, technology, or staff are required to lead the industry.

What This Means for You

  • Consistency: You can expect more stable, long-term planning across all disciplines (Road Race, Off-Road, and Flat Track).
  • Professionalism: We are working on updating the AHRMA Handbook and website to make rules and registration clearer and more user-friendly.
  • Inclusive Growth: By creating a “vibrant community” and modernizing our approach, we are making it easier for new riders to join the family, which keeps our grids healthy and our entry fees competitive.
