Bill Doran AHRMA # 2105 / Roadrace # 56

My love of participating in organized racing began 50 years ago as a 16 year old high school student. I read the rulebook, prepped my first street car and showed up at the local Drag Strip. The hook was set and over the next 25 years I raced cars and go karts on dirt and asphalt as often as time and money allowed. I rode motorcycles on and off road since I was a kid, but did not get the nerve to Roadrace motorcycles till I joined AHRMA in 1994.

For the last 25 years I have enjoyed racing vintage and modern motorcycles with some of the best people I have ever spent time with. AHRMA was always my main focus but early on I also raced with WERA vintage, CCS, USGPRU and AMA Sports.

When I retired 5 years ago I decided to volunteer some of my race weekend to help out the organization at the track. Although most of my work has been with tech inspection, I have also worked the grid, done scoring and various other jobs during the race weekends. A couple years ago Dave Lamberth asked me to serve on the Appeals Committee and I have worked with several rules committee members providing input on proposed rules changes.

In addition to the regular Roadracing Referee duties, Luke Conner has asked me to head up the new Incident Management Committee. This committee will be established at each roadrace event and be comprised of three senior racers that are present that weekend. The committee will help me look into any on track incidents that occur. I will be asking different racers to volunteer on different weekends so we can develop a group of racers to serve on this committee as needed.

Working directly with Cindy Cowell, Cal Lewis and Tony Pentecost at the track has been my training for this new position and I can not thank them enough for all they have done to help me. I have really enjoyed the time I have spent with the entire AHRMA family and look forward to helping out in my new role as Roadracing Referee.

See you at the race track!
