Wesley Poole, 2027 AHRMA Trustee Candidate – West.

I have finished my first 3-year term as an AHRMA western trustee, and am hoping your votes will send me back for another. With many unexpected challenges and a quickly changing landscape testing all AHRMA trustees particularly over the last year, I am compelled to stay dug in.

For those members who aren’t familiar with me, my name is Wes Poole and I’m 41 years old, living once again in Northern California after 4 years in Colorado. My introduction to AHRMA was at the tender age of 4, when my parents, Rob and Debbie Poole began this life-long love of AHRMA in 1989. This same devotion is and has been a part of me I think long before I even realized it.

Twenty-seven years of competition in AHRMA Trials and later Vintage motocross and cross country, as well as any dirt track I can attend, is not simply a lot of riding experience in the Vintage world, but in the span of these years I came to know rather well numerous individuals who started, built and steered this organization. I soaked up an institutional history and knowledge of how things began and evolved, and the intent of many of our rules. Having the ability to consult with such people is priceless to me, as chairman of the VMC R&E committee, when seeking a better understanding or direction on rules eligibility questions and rules proposals. They were there when many rules were created, and can accurately provide an explanation of why decisions were made, and of the discussions that took place at the time. These voices of experience reach across all disciplines, and guide me on issues related to some of the disciplines I know less well.

Three years ago when I was first elected to the board, my two older children first started and are now regular AHRMA trial competitors. My wife and youngest daughter continue to assist where ever they are needed and are gaining experience about what it takes to run an event. The emotional investment in AHRMA by our family becomes a larger part of our lives each year.

The last three years has been on-the-job-training with regards to becoming familiar with, and competent in, executing my duties as trustee. As board secretary and a member of the Executive Committee I have worked closely with some of the most creative and smart staff and board members AHRMA has had in many years. AHRMA has been saved numerous times in its history, and the lengths we as members, volunteers, staff and trustees have gone to survive, and then thrive, is a testament to our determination to see AHRMA continue as the best vintage motorcycle racing organization in the world.

Preparing for my first term I was long on enthusiasm and a desire to learn. Three years later I feel a solid knowledge and experience I didn’t have then. I hope I have earned your trust and confidence to continue as your AHRMA trustee.
