I have resubmitted Don Matthews’ proposal for including the Early Sportsman Stock class for the National points for the Vintage Motocross series. It will be discussed at the July 14th Trustee meeting.

You know Don, you know his reasons. He is more studied in the intricacies of the class than I. You know how much of a fanatic he was in his passion. I am no less. I follow his passion and make it my own.

This class brought all of us into what we would consider true Motocross in the United States and it should be awarded thereof.

Some would have you believe the ESS and Sportsman are competitive. And if they say that enough, they would make you believe it. But ESS and Sportsman are truly two different animals…and a distinct species. Those of you that have ridden both know the difference.

I hope that those of you that have a stake in this and those that believe ESS should be a separate class with National points …will contact their Trustee and show their support before July 10th.

I know it will come back to AHRMA tenfold if they adopt this Rule change.

I would like to add my voice to those others who are requesting the ESS class be reconsidered and approved as a national class. I’m relatively new to vintage racing, having only recently retired and immediately joined AHRMA. I had really wanted to get a sidepipe CZ – it was my most favorite bike I’d owned many decades ago – but after talking to a few people about how un-competitive it is in the Sportsman class, I decided to get a newer yellow-tank model CZ instead.

I do know that if the ESS class is made permanent, I’ll definitely be on the lookout for a decent sidepiper to run in that class.

      Thank you for your consideration.

I was a once very proud ahrma supporter. I ride sidepipes. A few years ago I got fed up with the same old song and dance excuses about the ess class. I decided I was not going to thrash my sp in a class I was completely out gunned in. It’s like bringing a knife to a gun fight. I know I’m a slow guy that is no mystery. When you put an ess bike into a class stacked with legal sandbaggers, the fact that you can be a class above and race as a novice , just made racing no fun anymore. I could see no reason to stay a member. Please listen to your members.

Health issue have kept me from racing for over a year, but now I am ready to roll and so is my Yamaha RT-1MX! It would be great to be able to race my ESS bike at Burrows Ranch, Hollister Hills and Glen Helen next year! Please reconsider making ESS a National Class. Thanks!
